I'm a yogi mum of 4 beautiful kids aged 14 to 21. Being a mum has changed me for all the right reasons. I am more sensitive, nurturing and protective. I am happier, more balanced, and satisfied that I have achieved something amazing. I know that I have raised 4 independent, headstrong, kind humans and I have not been hesitant in sending them out into this world, to make it a better place.
BELLABEAT: How has your life changed?
I have four beautiful children aged between 14 and 21; three boys and one girl. It’s safe to say that they changed my life for the better. I often heard people say that they didn’t know what they did with their time before kids, and I can certainly relate to that statement. I love sharing their moments, milestones, and achievements in life. I love their company and how different they all are when it comes to their personalities. For each of them, I’ll always have all the time in the world.
When it comes to the changes that followed having children, the biggest one was that I had to take responsibility for another human being other than myself. Being only 26 years old when my first baby was born, this was personally a huge change for me: suddenly it wasn’t only about me anymore. I had to live my life around the needs of my new baby — and subsequently my other three babies, as they arrived one by one. Another big change that my children brought to how I lived my daily life is being more prepared for my days — children need a lot of time and attention. Altogether, I feel that my children made me a more selfless person. My belief is that sacrifice, love, and consistency are the most important factors for being a successful parent.
BELLABEAT: How do you find balance?
I believe it is so important to take care of myself, too. I have always taken the time to look after my needs as a woman, wife, and friend. My routines have adapted and changed as my children grow up. I‘ve always said it takes a village to raise a child, and I found that this saying could not be more true. I have been fortunate enough to have all the help of my husband, family, and friends which allows me to still find time to do the things I love — like yoga, walking, cooking, baking, painting, and reading. My self-care time enables me to be the best version of myself for my family and my children.
BELLABEAT: What advice would you give?
I would say — be excited, be happy, be present. The best thing you can give your children is your love and time. Don’t be afraid to ask for help; children don’t come with a manual, and we can all lean on each other and learn from each other — so take advantage of that.
