YOUR LEAF IS NOW BETTER!

While we’ve been working on the LEAF app and adding new features and polishing the app’s outsides, we’ve also been making some under-the-hood improvements that might have easily gone unnoticed by you. Well, in this post, we’d like to tell you more about them so that you could get the most out of your LEAF!

New improvements for the LEAF


As we’ve mentioned, we’ll focus on under-the-hood improvements, the things you can’t really see, but it will make your experience with the LEAF a lot more pleasant. So, let’s get to it then.

FIRMWARE IMPROVEMENTS

You might have noticed the blue card on your app’s home screen. It’s the one telling you to update your LEAF. This is not an update for the LEAF app, but for the LEAF itself. Every LEAF has it’s own firmware, think of it as a program that runs and manages your LEAF while you wear it. It’s the thing that tells your LEAF what’s a step and what’s not a step, that those last three minutes were deep sleep and not light, the thing telling it that it’s battery is three bars instead of four.

Once you press the “Update LEAF” button and complete the update, your LEAF will have a brand new firmware! You can check your current version by going into the LEAF app’s Settings > Status and your firmware version will be there. The latest and greatest firmware versions will be the one ending in f07 and this will improve your LEAF’s step and sleep tracking accuracy.

There are some caveats. In some cases you won’t see the card prompting you to update your LEAF. If that’s the case, your battery might be lower than necessary to complete it. We’re not saying low, but lower than necessary to successfully update your LEAF. So if we were you, we’d check the status of the LEAF’s battery and if necessary, go grab a new one and do the update to have the best LEAF possible.

SYNC SETTINGS

Every once in a while, your sync might fail and you might have no idea why. Since syncing is the only way your LEAF app communicates with your LEAF, we wanted to make sure that this is as easy as possible and that there’s a minimal amount of those head-scratching moments where you have to re-do a sync.

Well, we believe that we’ve done it! This is one of the things that have been a long time in testing and are now available to all of you! The new settings should be downloaded to your app automatically as you sync your LEAF, but there are steps that you can do to ensure that you’re always up to date with the best possible software for your LEAF.

If you’re on iOS, don’t worry, simply have a strong internet connection and sync your LEAF a few times, the new settings will already be on your LEAF.

If you’re on Android it will take a few more steps, but then you’re set and you don’t have to think of it again! Go into your phone’s Settings > Accounts and Sync > Bellabeat and press the “Sync now” button. It may be hiding behind the three dots in the upper right corner so make sure to check there if you don’t see it right away. Once you’ve done that, turn on the auto-sync option for your Bellabeat account and you can be sure that all of your data is being backed up and that you’re receiving all the new settings for your LEAF.

After that, sync your LEAF successfully at least once and enjoy the benefits of all the subsequent worry-free syncs.

ACCURACY

Last but not least, we’ve improved the LEAF’s accuracy. How did we do it? We’ve tweaked the tracking algorithms, of course! Now, every time that you change your LEAF from bracelet to necklace or clip or vice-versa, go into the LEAF app and change the LEAF’s placement during activity in the Settings to benefit the most out of the new improvements that we’ve made to the tracking algorithms. That way, your LEAF will adapt to the new position and track your steps as accurately as possible!



And that is it, you’re good to go and enjoy your new and improved LEAF
And if it seems that your LEAF is tracking too many or too few steps, go and check if the placement in the app corresponds the actual placement as this will really affect your results!

Coloring for adults: Have you tried this relaxation technique?

We have a new hobby and we want to tell you all about it!

Everybody’s talking about the new phenomenon – coloring books for adults. We heard some people saying that it helps them reduce stress and calm their mind and we heard other people saying that it doesn’t help them at all. Fair enough. Every person is different and unique and for some people some things work and for some they just don’t. Well, we decided to give it a try and see how it makes us feel. At the end, energy doesn’t lie!

Equipment needed

The first step was to buy a coloring book for adults (there are plenty on the market to choose from with different patterns and designs) and borrow some coloring pencils from our kids. Along the way we discovered that this was actually a great activity you could do together with your kids!

Find time

The hardest part was to find time to actually do some coloring and we’re sure that many of you face the same challenges with balancing work and personal life. Reserving some “me time” in your day just for yourself is extremely important. It can be just 5 or 10 minutes in your day spent meditating! Think of it as a long term investment in your health.

Focus on the present

Once we started coloring, we couldn’t stop! Similar to when you meditate, when you color your brain enters a relaxed state by focusing on the present and you switch off your brain from other thoughts. Focusing on the present moment helps you achieve mindfulness and, as a result, you reach a state of calm that helps you relieve stress so we think that this is a great relaxation technique that also sparks your creativity.

We are absolutely in love with coloring…again! Here’s why:

  • Coloring relaxes our mind

  • It’s fun and relaxing activity we can enjoy with our kids

  • It sparks our creativity

  • It generates mindfulness and makes us feel better

  • We started paying attention to details

The only problem we could think of is the fact that it does require a little bit of time from your side. But luckily, there are always meditation exercises in the LEAF app you can try to calm your mind in just a few minutes. Have you tried them already?

We’ve had a little makeover so  your home, sleep, activity and breathing screens will present your wellness data in a more informative way from now on. Yaaay!

You asked, we listened! LEAF app will now store your steps data also in your Health app and Google Fit app. We love these apps because they let you see your health data from multiple apps and devices.

Today on the menu: Bircher muesli

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day! It gives you energy for the rest of the day and sets up your metabolism.

Still, a lot of people skip it because they’re rushing in the morning to get to work and they end up just drinking coffee or grabbing chocolate bar or croissant instead. With recipes we bring you on our blog, we want to show you that preparing a healthy meal is fast and easy. All it takes is a little bit of organisation and guidance on how to prepare a healthy snack.

At Bellabeat, we always encourage you to take care of your health and think of it as a part of your lifestyle, not a diet or restrictions of any kind. It’s ok to eat a chocolate bar, it’s ok to have a glass of wine! Living a healthy lifestyle is a part of who you are and it’s important to find what works the best for you as an individual and find the balance in everything you do.

Did you know?

Bircher muesli is named after Dr Maximilian Bircher – Benner  who invented this meal for his patients in Zurich in the 1890s because he believed that food could be used to keep the body healthy and not just satisfy the hunger. Find the recipe below and enjoy your meal!

Bircher Muesli Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup rolled oats

  • 1/2 cup coconut water

  • 1/2 cup plain yoghurt

  • 1 tablespoon of vanilla essence

  • 1 tablespoon of cinnamon

  • 1 tablespoon of honey

  • 3 tablespoons granola

  • 1/4 cup of almond milk

  • Fruits, seeds etc to mix in

Preparation:

  • Mix the rolled oats, coconut water, yoghurt, vanilla, cinnamon and honey in an airtight container.

  • Add more honey if you like it sweeter.

  • Leave it overnight in the fridge.

  • Take your muesli mix and mix through some granola and chopped fruits.

  • Top it off with some almond milk.
